FAQ'S

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you want to know before your dog's portrait session.

From how sessions work with dogs to what products clients love most, this page is designed to answer the most common questions and help you feel relaxed and excited before your portrait experience.

Let's Plan Your Session

Your Dog

What if my dog is reactive?

You're in the right place. One of my own dogs is extremely reactive, so I understand this world deeply. I have specific locations set aside for reactive dogs. Quiet, away from public foot traffic, with plenty of space to breathe. We'll talk through this during your planning session and make sure we choose a spot where your dog can relax and be themselves.

What if my dog has mobility issues or can't walk far?

We'll find a location that works for them, full stop. For dogs with limited mobility, I look for spots close to parking where they don't have to cover much ground. Beautiful images don't require a long hike. They require knowing your dog. We'll figure out the right setup together during your planning session.

Does my dog need to know commands or be trained?

Not at all. I don't use commands, treats, or posed setups. My approach is to follow your dog's lead and capture who they actually are. The way they move, the way they look at you, the stuff that's completely and uniquely them. Wiggly, distracted, shy, goofy. All of it works. I've never met a dog who wasn't photogenic once they felt comfortable.

What if my dog is not trained and cannot be off leash?

That's ok! (Neither are mine). Almost ALL dogs you see on my website have leashes on while being photographed. Leashes will be removed on images that are purchased. Safely is always first with me and I realize most dogs cannot be off leash.

What about my high energy dog?

I work with many different personality types, including high energy! My sessions are set up like a play date. We shoot a few photos, then it's playtime, then we shoot a bit more, and then more playtime. This keeps your dog active and engaged. I have plenty of ways to get dogs attention during their shoot and work with high energy dogs all the time.

What is a rainbow tribute session?

A rainbow tribute session is an end-of-life portrait session. A way to honor your dog and capture who they are in this chapter of their life. Everything about the experience is the same as a signature session: natural light, no commands, no poses, working at your dog's pace. The difference is the timing, which means we move a little faster to get you on the calendar.

When should I reach out for a rainbow tribute session?

As soon as you know. Please don't wait. I will do everything I can to get you in quickly, and I will handle everything else so you can just be present with your dog. Reach out directly at 614.636.3480 or through www.simplydogphoto.com and we'll take it from there.

Planning Your Session

How does the planning session work?

After you book, we schedule a planning session so I can get to know you and your dog before we ever meet in person. We'll talk through location ideas, narrow down the right spot, and go over anything you want to feel prepared for. We'll also discuss how to prep your dog, how we'll work with your dog on-location, and what kind of leashes are best. I'll help you as much or as little as you need, including wardrobe. Some clients want full guidance, others just want a quick check-in. Either is completely fine.

How do I book a session?

It starts with a quick phone call. I like to chat for a few minutes so I can understand what you're looking for, answer any questions you have, and make sure we're a great fit. If we are, the session fee is collected to hold your date and we'll schedule your planning session from there. Ready to talk? Call or text me at 614.636.3480 or reach out at www.simplydogphoto.com.

Where do sessions take place?

I work at a wide variety of locations throughout Columbus and Central Ohio. During your planning session, we'll talk through what fits your dog's personality and energy. Creek beds, open fields, rustic fencing, quieter wooded spots. There's always a perfect location. I just need to understand your dog a little better first.

What should I wear?

This comes up a lot and it's one of the things we cover in your planning session. The short version: wear something you feel good in, avoid busy patterns, and think layers if the weather calls for it. I'll walk you through specifics based on your location and the look you're going for. You won't be guessing.

The Session Experience

How long is a signature session?

Most sessions run about 90 minutes, but honestly? We let your dog decide. Some dogs hit their stride right away. Others need a little more time to settle in, get curious, and just be themselves.

We work at their pace, not the clock's. If that means we go a little longer, we go a little longer.

Can I be included in some photos with our dogs?

I HIGHLY encourage you to be included in your images and memories.

How long does a photoshoot take?

Session lengths vary depending on the type of shoot. Portrait sessions typically last 45 minutes to an hour, while more extensive sessions, like weddings, can take several hours.

Can I bring my partner? What about a second pet?

Yes, please bring your partner. This is a full experience and it's better shared. Sessions are designed for up to two pets from the same household. Have more questions about what works for your crew? Just ask when we chat.

What if it rains on the day of my session?

We'll find an alternative. Weather happens, and I'm not going to ask you and your dog to push through a downpour. We'll reschedule or adjust. Whatever makes the most sense for that day.

Artwork & Ordering

When will I receive my photos?

Editing takes time to ensure the best quality. Most sessions are delivered within 2-3 weeks, while larger events like weddings may take up to 6 weeks. Rush processing may be available upon request.

What products do you offer?

I specialize in custom handcrafted albums and fine art wall portraits. Wall portraits are available in framed prints, metal, acrylic, and canvas specialty finishes. Every product is something you'll hold, hang, and come back to for years. This isn't about digital files sitting in a folder. It's about your dog on your wall and in your hands.

Do I get digital files?

Yes. Every image you choose for an album page or a piece of wall art comes with its corresponding digital file included. So if you order a 10-image album, you receive 10 digital files. It's a meaningful way to think about your images. Each one chosen intentionally, each one yours in print and digitally.

When do I see my images and order my products?

About a week after your session, we'll get together for your reveal. You'll see your images for the first time and choose what you want to bring home. It's one of my favorite parts of the whole process. Watching someone see their dog through fresh eyes.

How long does it take to receive my products?

Digital files are typically delivered within 48 to 72 hours of your reveal session (depending on how many leashes need to be removed -- it happens). Custom albums are designed within 7 to 10 days and take approximately four weeks in production. Wall portraits are typically in production for about two weeks.

Investment FAQ's

What does investment look like?

The session fee is $495, and $200 of that is applied directly toward your final order. Print and digital collections start at $1,490. We'll go over everything at your reveal session so you can see exactly what you're choosing and why. No surprises, no pressure.

Are any prints, products or digitals included with my session?

Your custom prints, products and digital files are purchased separately at your Ordering Session which is typically 1 week after your session. We'll work together to find just what products suit you best in your decor, vision and budget.

What options do I have for enjoying my finished images?

Simply Dog Photography specializes in custom designed artwork such as beautiful Wall Art in a variety of finishes such as Metal, Acrylic and Canvas. Many clients fall in love with luxury albums which is a perfect way to hold on to many of your favorite images. There is truly something for everyone and we'll work together to find just the right fit. You can also learn more on the Prints and Products page found here.

Is there a minimum order requirement?

Most clients invest in a combination of Signature Wall Portraits or Groupings and Luxury Albums. Your total investment depends on how many images you fall in love with and how you'd like to enjoy them following your session, therefore the range of invesment can vary greatly from client to client. Some clients may be happy with a small handful of desk prints and others spend several thousand with beautiful custom designs to be displayed and enjoyed throughout their home. What you spend is up to YOU.

Do you offer Gift Cards?

Because of the custom nature of a Signature Dog Photography Session, Gift Cards are available only with the session fee + my smallest collection to gift your recipient a complete gift.
